Abortion - The Hidden Holocaust Part 9

I.                    The Scriptures

a.       Life in the Womb

A Life for a Life - Exodus 21:22-25

If a woman gets caught up in a fight and is accidentally or deliberately hit and consequently prematurely gives birth then there were definite repercussions.

If the child was born and no mischief followed, i.e. the child did not die, then the father of the child was to determine the punishment.

If the child was born and mischief followed, i.e., the child died, then the man responsible for hitting the womb was to be put to death, a life for a life. God considers the unborn baby to be alive.

  • People and not cells are sinners - Psalm 51:5

"Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me."

This verse points out that we all enter this world with a sin nature.  Paul writes about this in Romans 5:2, "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned." We are sinners by our nature and very early on we are sinners by choice.

The sin nature exists in our soul and spirit and not in individual cells within our body. The inspired psalmist writes here that from his conception God considered him a sinner and therefore a person.

  • Life Before Birth

Romans 9:11 - "For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;"

Genesis 25:22 - "And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If it be so, why am I thus? And she went to enquire of the LORD."

The two children spoken of here, Jacob and Esau, were not born and yet were counted as persons. The word in Genesis for "children" (like the Greek for children in Luke 1) is a word used before and after birth. Obviously God sees no difference between a child before or after birth. Both in God eyes are children and worthy of life.

  • God knows the unborn child - Jeremiah 1:5

"Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations."

God had a purpose for Jeremiah before he was born and even before he was formed in the belly.

The significant point is that God knew Jeremiah and had a purpose for him before his birth.

  • A "Man child" from Conception - Job 3:3

"Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night in which it was said, There is a man child conceived."

From the moment it was known that Job's mother was expecting Job was considered a human being, a child. The inspired Scriptures go further and state that from conception he was considered a child!

A baby before and after birth - Luke 1:41

"And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:"

In this passage the word used for the babe in the womb is the same as the word used for a child after birth. God sees no difference.

  • New Testament Sorcery Forbidden - Galatians 5:19, Revelation 21:8

    • The Greek word for witchcraft is pharmakeia. Thayer translates it as meaning:

      • 1) the use or the administering of drugs

      • 2) poisoning

      • 3) sorcery, magical arts, often found in connection with idolatry and fostered by it

      • 4) metaphorically the deceptions and seductions of idolatry

    • Chemical abortions happened in the first century the same way that it does now.

    • A concoction of chemicals was used to kill the unborn baby

    • Pharmakeia may mean witchcraft, but I believe there is a strong case for believing it means a chemically induced abortion

b.      Help for the Needy

  • The fatherless and widows

    • Man of the principles involved in caring for the fatherless and widows may be applied to potential victims of abortion and pressured mothers

    • Historically orphans, widows have suffered the most in society.

    • Today not a great deal has changed

  • The Scriptural Command

    • Deuteronomy 10:17-21

    • Deuteronomy 14:29

    • Deuteronomy 24:20 - Economic commands to help the needy

    • Deuteronomy 27:19 - A curse on those who abuse the needy

    • Psalm 10:14 - God cares for the needy

    • Psalm 68:5 - A Father to the fatherless

    • Psalm 82 - Help the poor and needy

    • Isaiah 1:17 - Foundations of Society

    • Jeremiah 7:1-6 - Commanded to help the needy

    • James 1:27 - The New Testament Connection
