First of all, here are some excerpts from the BBC article: Abortion increase in young girls
The number of abortions among girls aged under 16 rose by 10% to 4,376 in 2007, official figures for England and Wales show.
In the under 14s, abortions rose by 21% from 135 in 2006 to 163 last year.
The number of abortions in all women rose by 2.5% to reach an all time high of almost 200,000.
So with the increase in abortions, which probably means an increase in sexually active young people, what does our government recommend? Maybe they would recommend some teaching on abstinence? No, of course not.
Government advisers called for high quality sex education at school and investment in contraception services for young people.
This tactic has proven a failure. Ever since Blair and his New Labour government came to power they have advocated more and more sex education. Yet this same article records,
In the past decade, the number of abortions in the under 16s has risen by 27%.
As the sex education increased and was given to younger and younger people the number of abortions have increased.
This article has pointed out an increased usage of the so called abortion pill. What does not go quite so well reported is the number of complications and even deaths that occur due to some of these pills. Look here for more information: Teen Succumbs to Abortion Pill
Health Minister Dawn Primarolo said the figures showed considerable progress in reducing waiting times for abortion, with two-thirds of women now having a termination at under 10 weeks.
She added: "Contraception plays a vital role in preventing teenage pregnancy and earlier this year I announced a further investment of £26.8m to improve women's access to contraception and help reduce the number of abortions, repeat abortions and teenage pregnancies."
Contraception does indeed play a role in preventing pregnancies, but, abstaining from casual sex is the solution. This whole solution the government seeks is flawed for many reasons. Could you imagine them teaching students how to use a knife to prevent knife crime?
Also today I came across this article: Negative Effects of Abortion "Coming to Light"
The child who has her life taken is not the only victim in abortions, there are negative effects on the mother also.
In contrast to the UK's policy of sex education and contraception there is more of an emphasis in the USA on abstinence. With that in mind consider these paragraphs from the article:
The poll shows abortion support dropping to a seven-year low, and that the percentage of pro-life Americans tied its highest level during the same time frame. Moira Gaul of the Family Research Council believes the results show that the public is better educated on the subject.
"There is an increased awareness that abortion harms women's health," says Gaul. "Abortion often isolates women and causes both physical and psychological suffering."
Gaul says more research in both of these areas is coming to light, revealing that abortions can affect a woman's ability to have future healthy pregnancies. And equally as important is the pro-life upswing in younger people and pro-life student groups, she notes.
God has set out the right and proper use for sex and relationships in the Bible. So much heartache could be spared if people would only listen to the Bible.
